About Me

Here is a little about myself. I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Teaching from Simmons College in May of 2012.  I started my teaching career in third grade, I also taught 4th grade for 1 year, and 5th grade for 3 years. I am married to a third grade teacher.  I also have a son named Hudson and daughter named Hannah.

Philosophy of Education

Knowledge is the great equalizer. It bridges our differences through understanding and redefines our lives through discovery. As a teacher, I believe that education is a lifelong process. Teaching is not just the delivery of information; it is the process of stimulating thought, focusing effort, and promoting achievement. A teacher must embrace intelligence, not as the fixed result of innate ability, but as a function of their own effectiveness and the effort of their students.

Students educated in primary school must master the basic, but essential skills required for high level study. Language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies encompass a core curriculum that underpins more complicated subject matter. In addition, public education provides students with a community for exploring the complexities of morality, collaboration, communication, and conflict resolution. Teachers have the dual responsibility of both a student’s academic liaison and their behavioral role model. This delicate balance is maintained through a culture of structure and support, though it is equally important to stimulate risk taking and leadership. By using positive reinforcement, a teacher can bolster commendable behaviors, while discouraging less desirable conduct.

Whether an idealist or a practitioner, no one can argue against the importance of a quality education. The basic pursuit of happiness requires that we learn to better our lives and interface with the world around us. From the day we are born, we strive to become more competent adults. We model ourselves after those whom we idolize and aspire to reach their station. Our heroes gain our admiration and respect, while their actions guide our decision making. Teachers are central to this entire process. They are the positive models for our behavior and the inspiration behind our passions.

Mission Statement

My purpose as an educator is to inspire students to become lifelong learners, who use hard work and determination to meet their personal goals. To further this aim, I strive to create a classroom which fosters respect, community, and productivity. I work to raise the self-esteem of children through motivation and encouragement, while keeping high expectations and focusing them on their academics. Regardless of success or failure, my number one priority in the classroom is that children give their greatest effort. Making mistakes is not as unhealthy as giving up.

Lastly, I always strive to achieve a healthy home-school relationship since it’s vital to your child’s success.
